The Call Of Sedona 4 Hikes To The Heart Of Vortex
“If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.”
Nikola Tesla
Sedona - Arizona, is about a two-hour drive from Phoenix and is famous all over the world for the stunning red rock formations and incredible desert landscapes. But that's not all; many visitors come to experience something you can't see at all.
Sedona has developed a reputation around the world as a spiritual place of spiritual enlightenment and empowerment.
Millions of people come to Sedona every year looking for answers, enlightenment, or spiritual wellbeing. If you've never been to Sedona, you're missing a lot.
The moment you walk this extraordinary place, you can feel the holt of the energy in what is believed to be a sacred land holding ancient wisdom and home to a collection of unusual energy fields called vortexes
What is a vortex
The scientific definition of a vortex is a region of whirling fluids or air.
But in Sedona, a vortex is believed to be an area concentrated with powerful spiritual energy. Sacred vortices can also be found around the world in the Great Pyramid in Egypt, Machu Picchu in Peru, Bali, Stonehenge, Uluru/Ayers Rock in Australia, etc.
Hikes to the vortex
Sedona is more than a destination. Hiking is a rite of passage for all those who need to stand in silent wonder, take in the vibrant formations of the breathtaking red rock landscape and connect to the spiritual realm.
For all the vortex seekers, we picked our very favorite 4 hiking trails leading to the most powerful vortexes.
1. Boynton Canyon Trail
Whether you're planning to visit Sedona for spiritual enlightenment or simply to admire the stunning panorama, Boynton Canyon is one of the most spectacular trails.
It is a 6 miles moderate-high trail with 400 foot gain in elevation and gains the additional advantage of being conveniently accessible.
The first half to three-quarters of the trail is in the open air, so please make sure you have enough water, but if you're only vortex hinting, it will be right near the start of the trail.
If you decide to hike in Boynton Canyon Trail, it won't be uncommon to meet Robert, an elderly man who always comes here playing his flute and spreading positive energy to fellow hikers. We promise you will feel so uplifted and empowered after having a little chat with him. Plus, he adores offering little mementos along the way, and we were blessed with a small stone heart he carved himself.
1. Cathedral Rock Vortex Site
Cathedral Rock is one of the most spectacular hikes in Sedona, and despite its challenging climb – more than 650 feet in elevation gain - it will leave you speechless, both uplifted and grounded.
Cathedral Rock is said to be the only vortex with "feminine" energy- meaning that the energy enters the earth – and many hikers promise that the introspective powers are immense. Meditating or having a yoga session here will connect you to your memories and past lives. The perfect hike if you're in a moment of your life when you need to slow down and become calmer and grow quiet.
1. Airport Mesa Vortex
One excellent vortex site in Sedona is the Airport Mesa. Because of its proximity to downtown, it is also one of the busiest trails, but it's an excellent place for a sunrise hike when fewer people are out there.
If you can stay until sunset, you'll live one of the best experiences of your life: great views and a blanket of stars above you with the Milky Way at your fingertips. Many claims to have glimpsed colored orbs near the energy centers.
Because the energy exits the earth with an uplifting flow, Airport Mesa is one of those vortex sites said to have a "masculine energy," perfect for joy and rejuvenation seekers as well as all creatives out there looking for inspiration.
2. Bell Rock Vortex Site
The Bell Rock vortex is one of the most recognized vortex sites in the world, thanks to its characteristic bell shape.
It is located on the Northside of Sedona and is characterized by strong masculine energy that stimulates thoughts and ideas, which can be quite inspirational.
Although many people feel the need to climb the top of the bell, we felt the strong energy permeating our minds and bodies standing right at the base for a calm and grounding experience.
Look for a Sign
During our hikes, we experienced the stunning natural beauty of Sedona, and its views and sceneries literally took our breath away. No need to say we felt an uplifting yet grounding power within our souls and mind. The energy vibrations of this enchanted place stayed with us for many hours after we left.
But what has blown our minds were the twisted Jupiter trees we found on our hiking trails – the only actual evidence of the vortex existence. One of the many explanations is that the trees have been twisted by the wind but what we found incredible is that only a very few of these trees have this feature, and it’s very common to see a twisted juniper tree right next to a perfectly ordinary one.
Where to stay
We stayed at the Sky Rock Inn, and upon arrival, a telescope was in the process of being set up outside on their open balcony – we took it as a sign and a silent invitation to lift our mind to the stars.
Apart from the phenomenal view over the red rock formations, what we loved most was the incredibly warm welcome we received from the staff. And yes, our pups traveled with us as well, confirming the pet-friendly vibes of this hotel.
The panoramic terrace with striking views and firepits, the pet-friendly rooms, the Sky Rock lounge, and the outdoor heated swimming pool and hot tub made our stay memorable.

Bonus Notes From Us!
Oh Sedona! What a magical place. Visiting Sedona has been on our bucket list for some time. We always knew that Sedona would be a stop during our cross country trip. Because of covid we decided this was the time to do a cross country trip within our own country, the United States of America. One thing is for sure we did not spend enough time in Sedona. Sedona will always be a memorable experience for us.
We traveled to Sedona during a very special time. Both in the Spiritual world and in space. Was visible in the already breathtaking Sedona skies. The amount of stars that are visible it’s something to see. We stayed at the Sky Rock Hotel. Upon arrival a telescope was in the process of being set up outside on their open balcony. Awesome perk to give guests a closer look to (Saturn?).During the day the views of the vibrant red rock were phenomenal from the balcony as you enjoy breakfast. The biggest takeaway of the Sedona experience. Is that you truly see beauty but you also feel the universe’s energy.
Yes our pups traveled with us as well. The Sky Rock Hotel is pet friendly! For us pet friendly hotels are important as we rather travel with our dogs rather than leave them behind.
